This weeks Campus Session

Following Laura's Blog on the Campus Session here I have added some further thoughts and developments.

Journal Writing - It is important that we have evidence of our learning and self-development during the course. Journal writing however can take various different forms. For me my learning journal has taken place through my blog entries, conversations with peers and comments on others blogs rather than the traditional form of entries into a diary.

Literature review - It's true that within our 2,500 words there isn't enough space to effectively review literature. Therefore I have written a literature review that will go in as an appendix rather. That way I can briefly reference to my findings in the review rather than having  to go into great detail to explain that point again. If you would like to see my literature review I've put it online Literature Review

Artefact - The Artefact meant to be a presentation our findings to our target audience. So when deciding how to present our artefact we need to consider what format is going to grab their attention. The artefact is there as a way of sharing our findings with others. Paula encouraged me to consider presenting my artefact so that my peers and the wider community can access it and gain knowledge from it. Therefore I have decided use a tool to put it online so others may gain from it beyond the end of this course.

Some other important points:
  • Don't mention points in your critical review that haven't been mentioned previously (in data findings or appendices)
  • State the obvious - when writing the review don't assume that the reader will already know what you are talking about
  • Supporting evidence can take other forms e.g. blogging, informal chats with peers etc.
  • If you discover some new ideas or your research progresses then you need to find some more literature to support these thoughts.
  • Finally, now’s the time to be proactive. Stop putting things off and get down to it!
I hope this helps everyone. It certainly helped me.

  1. A really helpful blog which some good stop and check points. Sometimes we are so busy 'doing', we forget to stop and just break things down simply and make sure we have covered everything we intended too.

I picked up on your point about presenting your artefact to a wider audience, so you wider community of practice can access it and gain knowledge from it. I have been concentrating on producing a hard copy of my artefact but looking at ways of presenting it online for more people to access will be something i need to address also.
