Through most of the module so far I have been touring with a children's theatre company throughout the uk and Ireland.
Because of this job I have had to adapt how I gather my data. Originally I decided to conduct interviews with directors and a survery of performers. Because I am not able to meet up with people in person easily I chose to conduct the majority of my interviews through email communication. This is not an ideal situation but I have tried to ensure that my questions are clear and to the point. I decided not to conduct a survey of performers but instead interview them. My reasoning for this is I believe that the quality of the information I get from interviewing with be more qualative and in much more detail than a survery and will therefore be more useful to my inquiry.
Another change I made was deciding to collect data from my own personal experience. Since this course is a Work Based Learning course it makes complete sense to evaluate my own audition experiences and use my findings as part of my data.
Sounds like you are really thinking about the quality of the data you collect in terms of what you want to use it for.
ReplyDeletehave you started writing up your inquiry yet - ie the the critical reflection?

Not quite yet. I have been reflecting on my audition experiences and collecting my interviews. I am also part way through my lit reviews. I have a lot of time this week coming so I plan to really get down to the writing up part.
ReplyDeleteHi Tamsin I have had a similar experience in having to change my methods of data collection, to suit my working life. I wonder if you would like a telephone call to discuss this? My email is 00amandablack@gmail.com if you send me your number we can go from there, or go via email. Which ever suits you best?
